The republic of Mauritius suspends commercial flights

Commercial flights from South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Namibia, and Eswatini will be halted from Monday, November 29th, until Friday, December 31st, 2021.

The Republic of Mauritius will restrict all flights from the above countries from Monday, November 29th, to Friday, December 31st, 2021, in response to the emergence of the B.1.1.529 Covid variant and the decisions announced by numerous governments throughout the world. Over the next weekend, all passengers travelling to Mauritius from these countries will be subjected to a compulsory PCR test at the airport. They will also be subjected to PCR testing on days 7 and 14, which will be performed by ministry of health and wellness. This decision is considered essential to protect the citizens, residents, and tourists of our city.

The Covid-19 approach in Mauritius has been held in high regard as one of the most effective in the world, and a critical component of its strategy has been to be vigilant while establishing travel measures and policies.

Arvind Bundhun, Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, said: “It is with regret that the Government of Mauritius has today taken the decision that all flights from these countries will be suspended from next Monday, 29th November till Friday 31st December 2021.”

“Since the onset of the pandemic, Mauritius has imposed one of the most efficient pandemic responses. Maintaining this approach necessitates that we continue to follow a strict, public health-first approach in our Covid policies, including caution on inbound travel.”

“The Government of Mauritius looks forward to welcoming visitors from these countries as soon as the public health situation improves.”

Mauritius continues to remain accessible from many other markets in the world. Mauritius island has welcomed over 100,000 tourists after reopening its borders to international travelers on October 1st, after an 18-month shutdown.
