# Mauritius lifts travel ban for South Africa

South African Travellers!

The travel ban between South Africa and Mauritius has finally been lifted today.

There is no more a need for South Africans to spend 15 days outside their country before they can travel to Mauritius on authorised commercial flights.

Arvind Bundhun, the Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) welcomes the decision of the Mauritian government and restate that the Republic of South Africa remains a priority market for the tourism of Mauritius.

He is delighted that the island will be able to restart its long-standing relationship after an 18-month ban on travel.

Authorised commercial flights from South Africa to Mauritius will commence on 01 October 2021 namely by Air Mauritius, Comair South Africa, SAA and Fly Safair.

From 01 October 2021, fully vaccinated travellers from South Africa, will be allowed to stay at any hotel, resort or accommodation of their choice and move freely around the island.

Unvaccinated travellers will have to undergo 14 days quarantine in a state-designated quarantine facility.

The Aapravasi Ghat is an exclusive UNESCO world heritage site is a historical symbol of 70% of our ancestors who came to Mauritius between the year of 1850 to 1923.

The ultimate goal of the Mauritius glass gallery is to protect the environment by recycling glass waste.

Founded in 1991, you will find unique pieces of art crafted locally and is 100% recycled glass. You will even have the chance to assist artistic workers and skilled glassblowers working their magic.

You can also have your name engraved in one of the glasses to take back as souvenirs.

## Eureka House

The eureka house which was once a grand mansion in the year 1800 has now been transformed into an antique museum.

Businesses reopen today June 15th, allowing most residents to return to a pre-crisis way of life. On the other hand, travel bans are maintained.

The tourism and hospitality industry is redefining its model and hotels are for the time being focusing on the local market to sustain.

A sense of normalcy can be felt despite the facemask being a staple today and the sanitary protocol observed by shops, cafes, restaurants and businesses. Some restaurants are opting for a soft version of their menu cards to reduce human contact where applicable.

Authorities have accelerated the school reopening following the zero-risk climate for July 1st, first scheduled for August 1st.

The island is COVID-free but has registered new cases among the quarantined travellers who are currently under medical supervision.

This month, the government announced the 2020-2021 budget also bearing new amendments pertaining to investment in the island. The investment threshold dropped for foreign investors willing to start up or to move their business to Mauritius.
