Visiting Mauritius Island safely and securely
On October 1, 2021, Mauritius' international borders were fully officially reopened. In the 50 days that followed, the island welcomed almost 100,000 visitors, providing our tourism sector with a much-needed boost. All of our markets continue to see very significant demand. Mauritius forecast positive growth as we approach the peak festive period, which spans from now to the end of January respectively.
In accordance with its public health-first framework to managing the pandemic, Mauritius took a more conservative approach to the reopening of its borders. The island swiftly decided to postpone reopening until 60% of the adult population had been completely vaccinated, understanding that a high vaccination rate is the most effective method to maintain the safety and security of the local citizens, residents, and tourists. Initially in September, 60% of the population was vaccinated, and the current vaccination rate for those aged 18 and over is 89 per cent.
Mauritius island has established a lot of highly successful public health measures that have been continually enhanced over the course of the year, in addition to a high vaccination rate. Mauritius island has ensured that these are applied throughout the tourism industry by working with key stakeholders and health authorities. The WTTC has acknowledged the island sanitary procedures and measures established. Currently, less than 0.1 per cent of tourists arriving in the country have tested positive for Covid-19. Those that tested positive were promptly isolated, and none of them required to be hospitalized.
As a result of these conditions, this indicates that Mauritius island can provide the finest level of safety and security to its visitors.

Mauritius island vaccination campaign
The vaccination campaign began in late January 2021. More than 900,000 people are fully vaccinated at this stage, representing approximately 72 per cent of the total population and 89 per cent of the adult population.
Mauritius island booster campaign
With the recent arrival of more Pfizer and Jansen vaccines, the national vaccination booster campaign is still going strong. Booster shots have now been administered to over 55,000 people, with the campaign continuing through November and December 2021 and into 2022.

Mauritius was one of the first countries to prioritize tourism professionals first when it came to vaccination. As a result, tourists will only be served by completely vaccinated personnel, from airlines to airport employees, the hotel staff to destination management company employees. Only vaccinated people are allowed to enter the airport, port, hotels, and restaurants, according to the regulations in the country.

To ensure the safety of our guests and frontline personnel, sanitary protocols for the tourism industry were established, applied, and enhanced. Frontline tourism professionals, as well as taxi drivers at the airport and hotels, were given specialized training according to protocols tailored to their professions.
