Mauritian Diaspora Scheme

The Mauritian Diaspora Scheme (MDS) is a government initiative to attract members of the Mauritian diaspora back to the island and contribute to its economic development.

Categories of Applications

A member of the Mauritian diaspora can apply for the scheme under one of the following categories:

• Professional
• Self-employed
• Young professional

These categories are based on the nature of the applicant’s activities in Mauritius and the eligibility criteria outlined by the government.

Application Process for the MDS

An application for a Mauritian Diaspora Certificate can be made to the Economic Development Board under the following conditions:

• Before returning to Mauritius or
• Within 180 days from the start of the applicant’s first employment or the registration of their first business in Mauritius.

Those who returned between 15 March 2022 and the implementation of the Economic Development Board (Mauritian Diaspora Scheme) Regulations 2023 are eligible to apply for the certificate within 365 days of starting their first employment or registering their first business in Mauritius.

All applications for the Mauritian Diaspora Certificate must be submitted to the Economic Development Board.
