Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Premium Visa, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Non-Employment: Applicants should not enter the Mauritius labour market.
  2. Source of Income: The primary source of business and income must be outside Mauritius.
  3. Documentation: Provide documentary evidence supporting the purpose of the visit, accommodation, etc.
  4. Basic Immigration Requirements: Fulfill all other standard immigration requirements.
  5. Insurance: Proof of sufficient travel and health insurance for the initial period of stay.
  6. Extended Stay Plans: Demonstrate intent for a long-term stay.

Eligible Countries: Citizens from the following countries are eligible to apply for the Premium Visa:

  • Africa: Egypt, South Africa, Mozambique, Ghana, etc.
  • Asia: China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, etc.
  • Europe: France, Luxembourg, Romania, Sweden, United Kingdom etc.
  • Americas: Argentina, Canada, Brazil, etc.
  • Oceania: Australia, New Zealand, Samoa (Western), etc.

Note: Foreign nationals from countries not listed can still enter Mauritius on a Tourist Visa and submit their online application for the Premium Visa during their stay.

Visa Validity

  • Duration: The Premium Visa is renewable and valid for six months up to one year.
  • Requirement: A Premium Visa is required for stays exceeding 180 days in a calendar year. For stays under 180 days, a tourist visa is granted on arrival.

Application Process

Mode of Application: Applications for the Premium Visa must be submitted online via the Apply for Premium Visa link. The process is straightforward and free of any processing fees.

Easy Steps to Obtain Your Visa:

  1. Flight Pre-Booking: Secure your flight to Mauritius.
  2. Apply Online: Complete the online application form.
  3. Receive Your Visa: The Premium Visa will be issued via email.
  4. Book Accommodation: Arrange your stay in Mauritius.
  5. Travel to Mauritius: Prepare for your journey.
  6. Notify PIO: Inform the Public Immigration Office (PIO) of any changes in accommodation.

What You Need to Complete the Form:

Visa Delivery: Once the application form is completed, check your email for the e-visa document.

Free of Charge

The Premium Visa is issued free of charge with no processing fees applicable.

Health Protocols

  • Open to All: Mauritius is open to both vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers.
  • No Testing Required: Before flying to Mauritius or upon arrival, no testing is required.
  • No Self-Isolation: Unvaccinated travellers do not need to self-isolate upon arrival.
  • Mask Guidelines: Face masks are not required during your holiday but are recommended in airports, during transfers, and in public and private healthcare facilities.
  • Travel Companions: No restrictions on the number of people travelling together.

Additional Information

Tourist Visa for Short Stays: A tourist visa is granted for leisure travel not exceeding 180 days in a calendar year.

Transitioning to Premium Visa: If you arrive in Mauritius on a Tourist Visa, you can apply for a Premium Visa during your stay.

Occupation and Residence Permits: Premium Visa holders intending to work or invest in Mauritius can apply for an Occupation Permit. Retired non-citizens can apply for a Residence Permit. More information is available on the EDB website Work and Live in Mauritius page.

Property Acquisition: Premium Visa holders may acquire residential property under various schemes such as the Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS), Real Estate Scheme (RES), Property Development Scheme (PDS), or Smart City Scheme (SCS). Apartments in buildings with at least ground plus two floors are also eligible.

Taxation:

  • Mauritian-Sourced Income: Taxed on a remittance basis. Money spent in Mauritius via foreign credit or debit cards is not deemed remitted.
  • Bank Deposits: Income tax applies on money deposited in Mauritian bank accounts unless declared taxed in the country of origin or residence.
