Mauritius’ Creative Industry is experiencing rapid growth, contributing significantly to the nation’s economy. The government’s commitment to fostering creativity has created a supportive environment for artists and businesses.
Industry Overview
Mauritius has taken significant steps to support local artists and bolster the creative sector. Financial assistance schemes have been introduced to support film productions and to fund participation in international shows and events. Notably, the Mauritius International Art Fair (MIAF) in August 2019 attracted around 120 artists from 45 countries, positioning Mauritius as a cultural hub and promoting cultural tourism. - Film Grant (National Resilience Fund – NRF):In collaboration with the Economic Development Board (EDB) and the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage (MACH), the Mauritius Film Development Corporation (MFDC) offers grants up to Rs 2 million to support independent local filmmakers.
- Film Rebate Scheme:Managed by the EDB, this scheme offers a rebate of 30% to 40% on Qualifying Production Expenditures incurred in Mauritius for both local and foreign film producers.
- SME Refund Scheme:Also managed by the EDB, this scheme finances the participation of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), including those in the creative industries, in international fairs.
