Permanent Residence Permit (PRP)
The Permanent Residence Permit (PRP) is designed for expatriates who wish to live and work in Mauritius long-term, making it their second home. This 20-year residency is available to investors, retirees, professionals, self-employed entrepreneurs, and their families and can be renewed for an additional 20 years, provided the residency requirements have been met.

How to Qualify for Permanent Residency?
To apply for PRP, you must have held residency for at least three years under the following criteria:
- Investor
- Achieve an annual gross income of at least MUR 15 million for three consecutive years before applying for the PRP.
- Achieve an aggregate turnover of MUR 45 million over any consecutive 3-year period.
- Retired Non-Citizen
- Transfer at least USD 54,000 (or its equivalent in foreign currency) three years before applying for permanent residency.
- Professional
- Earn a monthly basic salary of at least MUR 150,000 for three consecutive years before applying for the PRP.
- Self-employed
- Generate at least MUR 3 million annual business income for three consecutive years immediately preceding the PRP application.
Note: A non-citizen holding an Occupation Permit (OP) or Residence Permit (RP) for at least three years, with a valid OP/RP on 1 September 2020, is eligible for the 20-year PRP. The renewal conditions will follow the OP/RP criteria.
Family Accompaniment
Mauritian immigration policies support family reunification. Dependents, including spouses, common-law partners of the opposite sex, children, and parents, are eligible for the permanent residence permit.
Important Notes
- Applying for an Occupation Permit (OP) or a Residence Permit (RP) for retirees via the National E-Licensing System (NELS) is free of charge.
- The Economic Development Board (EDB) does not charge fees for processing permit applications. Only successful applicants are required to pay the Government of Mauritius statutory permit fees.
