Bras d’Eau National Park

Interested in exploring forests, historic ruins, and learning about a unique National Park? Established in 2011, Bras d’Eau National Park offers a quieter alternative to the popular Black River Gorges, yet it’s equally captivating.

Located in the northeast of Mauritius, much of Bras d’Eau’s land was once used for non-native tree plantations. Despite this, the park retains original biodiversity, including two species of giant Mauritian ebony trees, Bois de Fer, and critically rare ferns and orchids. As a protected National Park, these precious species are safeguarded and allowed to flourish.

Visit the Visitor Centre to learn about the trails, historic ruins, and local wildlife. The easy Coq Du Bois Loop makes Bras d’Eau a great destination for walkers of all skill levels and features an orchard with about 2000 mango trees and 200 litchi trees.

The park is also a fantastic spot for birdwatching. With some luck, you might see sparrows, Mauritius Fodys, canaries, white-eyes, or the rare Mascarene Paradise Flycatcher. Mare Sarcelle lake within the park serves as a natural haven for migratory birds. After your visit, relax at Poste La Fayette beach or enjoy lunch at one of the park’s picnic tables.
